How Did You Start Knitting?
Updated: Sep 26, 2021
For me, it was college and all thanks to a friend we’ll call C. She learned from a friend and I can’t for the life of me remember how I came around to asking her to teach me. What I do remember is being presented with needles and yarn during our Secret Santa. I vaguely remember struggling with the cast on, dealing with tight tension on metal needles, and accidentally playing yarn chicken because I wanted my purple scarf to be as long as possible. I had no idea what a cast off was or that you needed extra yarn for it. I remember C being patient with me. I remember us sitting together as I worked to cast off my very first project. I remember being so proud of what I made, even with a few holes here and there. I don’t know that C or I knew what was going to come from her being willing to teach me, what was being cast on in my soul. But her kindness led to a passion I never saw coming. One that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Thank you C!
